The Ultimate Book Tag

Finally I’m able to do this. I was tagged by Jesse from Books at dawn. If you don’t know this blog, please take a look at it, you won’t regret it.

Do you get sick while reading in the car?

Nope, never. As a child I was packed each summer in my parents’ car and then we drove for 6 to 8 hours to go camping. The first few hours I slept (we started our journey at 4am) but then I read nearly the whole drive, so… no problems at all. Lucky me.

Which author’s writing style is completely unique to you and why?

So, I have to think about this question. I’m not sure if there is one to be honest. I think not? I’ll hide in my corner of shame now…

Harry Potter Series or the Twilight Saga? Give 3 points to defend your answer.

Harry Potter, Harry Potter, Harry Potter!

  • no romanticized abuse (even though the Snape story line is scary, because as a child I was fooled and thought like many others of him as the good guy)
  • It focusses on friendship
  • lots of different characters with different personalities and quirks

Do you carry a book bag? If so, what is in it (besides books)?

Well, I’ve got a backpack I use often. There is at least my Kindle or a book in it (depends on what I’m reading at the moment), my mp3 player, keys, wallet, a water bottle if I remember to put it in it, lots of medications, smart phone, tissues, hm… I think that’s it.

Do you smell your books?

Me? Never. I have never picked up a book, moved it really close to my nose, inhaled deeply and thought “there needs to be a perfume of this scent”.

Who am I kidding…

Books with or without little illustrations.

Without. Of course a chapter title with a little illustration is nice to look at, but as soon as the page itself is illustrated (just has to be a corner), I am bothered by it. I do love maps at the beginning of a book, though.

What book did you love while reading but discovered later it wasn’t quality writing?

I really loved the books I own written by J.L. Langley. Later on – after I had read more LGBT books – I learned her writing isn’t the best, but still. I will read them again and probably like them as much. I’m not okay with the way the books get published though.

Do you have any funny stories involving books from your childhood? Please share!

Not that I know of.

What is the tinniest book on your shelf?

Maybe A Single Man by Christopher Isherwood? I’m not sure but that one sure doesn’t have a lot of pages.

What is the thickest book on your shelf?

It’s A Storm Of Swords by George R. R. Martin. I’m sure a lot of bloggers answered the same.

Do you write as well as read? Do you see yourself in the future as being an author?

No. Of course I dream of it but I’m content in my role as a reader.

When did you get into reading?

My first year at school I HATED reading. I just didn’t get the hang of it. And then by the second year it made ‘click’ and I could read and I have never stopped since then.

What is your favorite classic book?

I can’t decide.

It’s either The Physicists by Friedrich Dürrenmatt or Krabat by Otfried Preußler. But if I had to decide I’d choose Krabat, since I have read it more often.

In school what was your best subject Language Arts/English?

I don’t even know what Language of Arts is supposed to be. I wasn’t teached this class(?). So English.

If you were given a book as a present that you had read before and hated, what would you do?

All my friends and my family know that I read a lot. So usually I either give them a list of books they can gift me with or I get a gift coupon. But if the described situation would happen, I’d just say “sorry, I already own this book…” and since they know me, they wouldn’t trash the receipt until they’ve gotten my okay. But I’d never say “Ugh, how could you buy me such a shitty book” or something like that. It’s just rude.

What is a lesser known series that you know of that is similar to Harry Potter or the Hunger Games?

Lesser known? Hm. Well, Battle Royale is a lot like The Hunger Games – or rather the other way around, since it’s been published before – but it’s no series. How about Trudi Canavan’s Black Magician series? I think you could say, if you like Harry Potter, you could give that one a try.

What is a bad habit you always do (besides rambling) while blogging?

I’m sure there are a lot. How about not being really ‘out there’ in the social media world?

What is your favorite word?

I don’t have one…. but I like the ‘L’-sound? So probably a word starting with a L.

Are you a nerd, dork, or dweeb? Or all of the above?

I’m not sure. Everything and nothing? But to give you an answer I took a look at this venn diagram and it tells me I may be something between a nerd and a dork?

Vampires or Fairies? Why?

I’m not really into Fairies. I’m not really into vampires, but I have read more interesting stories about Vampires.

Shapeshifters or Angels? Why?

That’s a hard one. Shapeshifters are cool, but if you do a little more with Angels than just “good creatures of God” they can make an interesting story… Please don’t make me choose?

Spirits or Werewolves? Why?

Spirits could be more interesting than Werewolves. But I haven’t read a good book where the main chara was a Spirit. I have read good books about Werewolves, so I’ll choose them. There is something about bonding and the things surrounding it that really gets me?

Zombies or Vampires? Why?

Vampires. Zombies are boring… They could be a little more interesting if done differently but a book with a Zombie main chara? I don’t know.

Love Triangle or Forbidden Love?

I hate both. I don’t know if I’ve ever read a YA novel where I read in the description that it features forbidden love, so I’ll go with Love Triangle. I have read books with that. Mainly because you can’t escape this trope?

And finally: Full on romance books or action-packed with a few love scenes mixed in?

Action with a little romance. I would be bored if I only read romance and the only things happening were romantic ones or relationship-y things.
